BUDDHIST PSYCHOLOGY: ESSENTIAL SKILLS FOR TRANSFORMING THE HEART & MIND

Jack Kornfield

Course Overview

Buddhist psychology is best described as a science of mind. It’s practical, it’s experiential, and its fundamental purpose is to lead to the best of human possibilities – to bring healing, well-being, inner freedom – no matter what the changing circumstances of life might be.

When we forget, we move through life lost in a small perspective, limited by our conditioning: we can be lost in thought, caught up in fears or anxieties, suffering or depression. We can lose our sense of well-being. Yet, we also know there are possibilities of being open, gracious, wise, more loving, and more compassionate. There are possibilities for having a flexible and  present centered life where we are living more fully and freely, where we are not caught in the fears, history and troubles of our past.

Buddhist psychology can provide you with provocative new understandings, powerful practices and possibilities for well being. It can inform or transform the way you live and work. If you are new to Buddhist teachings and meditation has seemed foreign to you, you will learn that meditation is quite natural. Simply directing your attention in a careful, considered way is the beginning. If you are someone more experienced in Buddhist practice, this course may challenge you with entirely new ways of envisioning and practicing the path of awakening.
