SUMMARY:The Measure of Our Humanity: Actualizing Compassionate Action in These Tangled Times – Freedom with Jack Kornfield [Online\, Free]
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Upaya Zen Center: \nIn 2026\, we turn toward a question that has perhaps been implicit throughout this entire journey: What is the measure of our humanity? \nAt its very heart\, this question is about laying down a path toward a sane and compassionate future. It is about confirming what defines our moral worth\, what we stand for\, and how we move forward in our tangled world. As we have learned throughout the past 2025 series—from Father Boyle’s unwavering belief that everyone is unshakably good\, to Sharon Salzberg’s teaching that love is an ability we develop—our true character is revealed in how we interact with and care for others\, the very heart of what Thich Nhat Hanh has called “interbeing.” \nThis talk will explore how we embody values like inclusion\, belonging\, compassion\, respect\, dignity\, justice\, and courage—not as abstract ideals\, but as lived practice in these complex times. \nThis program will take place on Sunday\, October 25\, 2026\, from 10:00 a.m. PT \nRegisteration and Information here \n\nFor more information or help with technical questions\, please email us at onlineprograms@upaya.org.

SUMMARY:Wisdom and Wellbeing: Practicing Presence and Deep Connection | Blue Spirit Costa Rica [In-Person]
DESCRIPTION:I’m excited to announce that Trudy Goodman and I will be part of the incredible faculty at the 2027 Wisdom & Wellbeing at Blue Spirit in Costa Rica. This 7-day retreat from Feb 6 – 13 offers a unique opportunity for deep personal growth\, relaxation\, and transformative learning\, all set in one of the world’s most breathtaking locations. \nThe Wisdom and Science of an Open Heart — Meditation\, Interpersonal Neurobiology & the Nature of Awareness\n\n\n\n\nThe heart can be both tender and strong. It can feel the weight of the world and still remain open – holding sorrow\, beauty\, courage\, and love without turning away. \nThe Wisdom and Science of an Open Heart is a week devoted to discovering that capacity within ourselves. This remarkable faculty brings together Buddhist contemplative wisdom\, the direct recognition of non-dual awareness\, the hard science of how our nervous systems metabolize stress\, how relationship shapes the brain\, and the embodied\, ancestral work of movement\, grief\, and rest. Contemplative\, scientific\, relational\, embodied – each path converges on the same truth: an open heart is not fragile. It is a profound source of wisdom\, resilience\, and connection. \nAs we learn to rest in the open nature of awareness\, we discover a deeper relationship with ourselves\, one another\, and the living world. \nHere\, where land\, ocean\, jungle\, and community meet\, Blue Spirit offers the space to practice\, reflect\, and let growth unfold in its own time. \n\n\n\n\nFor more details and to register\, visit: Blue Spirit Wisdom & Wellbeing \nLooking forward to an amazing week of growth\, connection\, and rejuvenation with you!

SUMMARY:The Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program
DESCRIPTION:A two-year professional training program for teaching mindfulness and compassion-based practices with Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach. The training begins Feb. 2027 \nWe are excited to share our 18-month online Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program with you. Our Teacher Certification Program has been in the making for over 30 years. And today\, especially given the need for qualified mindfulness meditation teachers\, training to teach is more compelling than ever. By joining this training\, you will become part of a worldwide movement of people dedicated to bringing mindfulness meditation to local and global communities—people from all walks of life who are committed to mindful living and compassion\, evolving consciousness\, and personal and social transformation. \nIn this time of global challenges\, the pandemic\, climate crisis\, and continuing racism and divisiveness\, people are longing for wise ways to navigate\, heal trauma\, find resilience\, and foster well-being. The teaching of mindfulness and compassion offers a powerful transformative medicine. The first three cohorts filled to capacity\, so we encourage those interested not to miss this chance to enroll for the cohort beginning in 2027. \nThe program has both psychological and spiritual depth. It combines our powerful online curriculum with teachings led by guest faculty including Eckhart Tolle\, Dan Siegel\, George Mumford\, Zenju Earthlyn Manuel\, Kristin Neff\, and many more. Our program will begin and end with live virtual events. These online events will include small breakout sessions\, live Q&A sessions\, and opportunities for one-to-one connections to virtually meet other students from around the world. \nAs you journey through the curriculum\, you’ll meet regularly with fellow students and 24 times in your small mentoring group with one of our highly trained teachers\, who will serve as your Mentor\, to practice and refine your skills. Many graduates report that the mentoring groups were a highlight of the training\, providing community\, guidance\, and support for the entire two years. We’ve also added a new cultural sensitivity and racial awareness training\, offering a unique and powerful opportunity for students to apply their deepening mindfulness practice to promote community building across the social chasms of race\, ethnicity\, and other divides. \nUpon completion of the program\, you will be certified by both the Awareness Training Institute and the Greater Good Science Center at the University of California\, Berkeley. Continuing Education credits will also be available. \nThis is an extraordinary learning experience. We will lovingly support and challenge you to do your own internal work to strengthen your practices of mindfulness and compassion\, while honing your skills to bring this greater awareness to others. In this way\, we invite you into a transformational journey to bring healing and connection to our suffering world. \nThe training begins Feb. 2027. \nLearn more and sign up here \nFor questions\, please email admissions-mmtcp@soundstrue.com
